It’s the end of October, our flowers are feeling the pinch of cold nights and the sun doesn’t seem as warm as it was. We took a one-week break in Marbella, on the southern coast of Spain, and suddenly t-shirts and barefoot on the beach felt just right again.
But the real surprise and pleasure was an abrupt return to the luxuriant flowers of summer. I work so hard to keep bright little bougainvilleas growing on my Alpine veranda, feeling pleased if they make it to 50 cm high – what a shock to see masses of these flowers above every doorway!
Coming next: Granada’s Alhambra gardens, a peaceful October haven despite the crowds (thinning, compared to summer).
