My beautiful blue bug!

I’ve just learned three things about ladybugs that I didn’t know:

  1. They are not only called ladybirds by the Brits (this I knew), but these coccinellid tend to be called lady beetles by biologists, according to Wikipedia (which also describes them as gay, an odd choice of words in a scientific context)
  2. They have white eyes, but I’m not convinced on this one, having spent several minutes trying to photograph the eyes of my blue bug
  3. They come in many colours including brilliant metallic blue.

I found a metallic blue one having wonderful time on my Moroccan mint plant. I hope she stays.
