I’ve just learned three things about ladybugs that I didn’t know:
- They are not only called ladybirds by the Brits (this I knew), but these coccinellid tend to be called lady beetles by biologists, according to Wikipedia (which also describes them as gay, an odd choice of words in a scientific context)
- They have white eyes, but I’m not convinced on this one, having spent several minutes trying to photograph the eyes of my blue bug
- They come in many colours including brilliant metallic blue.
I found a metallic blue one having wonderful time on my Moroccan mint plant. I hope she stays.
