Last weekend I took two early morning hikes up the mountainside above Sierre, Valais. I was attending a number of events linked to the Vinea wine fair; one result was too much good food and wine – thus the need to balance it out with some serious walking!
What a wonderful pleasure, to see the ripening grapes and the fruit and flowers enjoying the start of autumn. The only sounds were the birds, a rushing stream and the occasional vigneron heading up to his grapes.
Here’s a sample of the visual display next to the hamlet of Muraz, starting out from Chateau Mercier, where chairs were being set out for the awards ceremony for the Mondial des Pinots wine competition, which takes place at the same time as Vinea (I’m one of the judges).
