Autumn colours seep into mountainside

The larch trees were still deep green 19 September as I drove up the mountainside: here at 1,500-1,600 metres, above Aminona in Valais. At the top of the road the view to the higher alps appeared through the clouds: the pastures were already autumn golden, which means the larch trees are preparing to turn this colour. And it’s clear why farmers have done the désalpe, bringing cows down to altitudes where the grass is still growing and green.
