Flying into Malaga airport April 9 offered a surprise: the normally brown hills around Granada and down to the sea were so green! Not surprising after weeks of rain, unusual even in the rainy season and more so after some years of drought. Retamales and the La Concepción dam looked healthier and greener than usual – 13 April the dam was drained for the third time this year when it went over its normal capacity.
The result of all this rain, on the Costa del sol, or sunny coast, is an abundance of richly coloured wild flowers everywhere. A gardener’s delight!
