So far we’ve counted about 30 little frogs in our pond, visiting since mid-March and laying a few healthy, large balls of spawn. They leap in and out of the pond, chase each other and make very soft, low noises; in short, they are wonderful visitors. The rock garden around the pond needs weeding and pruning, but frogs hide as soon as there is any noise, fading quickly into the mud. So for now the pond is theirs and the weeds grow, and I take pleasure in watching the heather burst into colour after five months under heavy snow.
